ISO/IEC 17025 cylinder testing lab setup and accreditation.
I built a hydrostatic gas cylinder testing laboratory from an empty room, took it through ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation and ran it for three years. I can help your lab do the same, or prepare an existing lab for its next audit.
- Standard
- ISO/IEC 17025
- Accredited scope
- INSO 6792
- Test
- Hydrostatic testing & periodic inspection
- My role
- Built, equipped, accredited, ran (2022–2025)
What I help with
- Scope definition: which cylinder types, test methods and standards the lab will cover, and what that means for equipment and staff.
- Lab layout and equipment selection: a workflow from receiving to marking, test bay safety, calibration and traceability.
- Quality system: quality manual, procedures, forms and records that meet ISO/IEC 17025 and fit how your lab really works.
- Technical records and traceability: so every result can be traced to the cylinder, the equipment, the calibration and the person.
- Staff training and competence records.
- Accreditation and audit preparation: pre-assessment audit, findings, and support closing nonconformities.
Why it matters
Accreditation is how a testing lab proves its results can be trusted: that the people are competent, the equipment is calibrated, the methods are valid and the records are complete. For a cylinder testing lab, that trust is also a safety question. A cylinder that passes inspection goes back into service under pressure.
How a lab project runs
Gap review
Where you are against the standard and your intended scope.
Plan
Priorities, equipment, documents, people and a realistic timeline.
Build
Layout, equipment, procedures and records, with your team.
Prepare
Internal audit, management review and a pre-assessment.
Assessment
Support during assessment and closing any findings.
Questions
Can you help if our lab is already operating but not accredited?
Yes. I start with a gap review against ISO/IEC 17025 and your intended scope, then we close the gaps in order of risk: technical competence and records first, paperwork second.
Do you write the quality manual for us?
I draft the quality manual, procedures and forms with your team, so the documents match how your lab really works and your staff can follow them. Documents nobody follows fail audits.
Which cylinders and standards do you cover?
My hands-on experience is hydrostatic testing and periodic inspection of gas cylinders, with INSO 6792 in the accredited scope. For other cylinder types and standards, we confirm the applicable requirements together at the start.
Can you prepare us for an assessment or audit?
Yes. A pre-assessment audit against the standard, a list of findings with priorities, and support closing them before the assessors arrive.

Tell me your scope, where you are now and your deadline.
From an empty room to an accredited lab.
Whether you are starting from zero or preparing for an audit, a short description of your lab is enough to start.
